Specification

Subspec launches into a new year with a bold new compilation featuring various members of our extended family. Faces familiar and new deliver the grooves across 20 varied tracks that generally fit under the umbrella of Techno. This isn’t about a stylistically monotone single image for our label, but rather providing music that is both of the moment and aware of and honoring the roots we developed from. Most of the tracks are squarely aimed at groove-oriented dancefloor Techno with an experimental undercurrent from artists like The Automatic Message, Jerry Abstract, and Fabrics. RAFH & re_Click, John Massey, and Jay Zoney bring some peak hour fire. Complicit, Sone, JGarrett, and Rubidium provide the solid connective glue that helps tell a story within a set. We get dubby with Danzai, Cyanwave, and Milkplant; minimal with Terrence Dixon and Countered. Somatic Responses and Zyxt tip their hat to classic sounds of the early IDM scene. Kafka and Keef Baker’s OCDC glam things up on our way to close out with Raab Codec’s glitchy ambience.

“Specification” doesn’t represent a roadmap, but rather a vista populated by a variety of artists whose work we enjoy. It’s a moment in a transition and our report for the beginning of 2013!

The Conduit Podcast // 065

“In a recent conversation with a friend he mentioned that the West Coast had it’s own special techno sound, very dark and warehouse friendly. In some ways it reminded him of the free-for-all spirit of the legendary Midwest scene that informed his youth. We’ve been fortunate to present mixes from a whole crop of artists from out West flying that flag, the best, in our opinion, and we’ve gotten quite an education. Cyanwave offers a different look at the West Coast vibe on our 65th edition of The CONDUIT. The duo dives deeper and gets weirder, while still tapping to the essential elements of the artform – rhythm and melody.” - Sean-Michael Yoder

Anxiety of Acceleration Remixes

“Seattle electronic music duo Cyanwave create post-warehouse rhythms layered with captured audio and dub soundscapes. With no final destination and valuing sound aesthetic over genre loyalty, the aim is exploration itself. Cyanwaves well-received Anxiety of Acceleration EP now gets the remix treatment from a cross section of Innerflight Musics distinctive artist roster. Graintable, Crown Hill Repeater, and Spon.10.80 all transform the original tracks into their own special mutations. Also making their first appearances on Innerflight are up and coming Seattle producer The Googly, Minneapolis live techno duo Complicit, and native New Yorker (now calling Seattle home) and the man behind Nylon Trax, Jaymz Nylon. Transversing the lines from dubby and abstract techno to a touch of dubstep and broken beats, this release expands upon the musical ideas presented in the originals, broadening the journey to new horizons. Be sure to give a listen to these unique, deep, and expressive sounds tailor-made for the more adventurous DJs and listeners.” -Innerflight Music

Decibel Festival 2012

Thanks to Sean Horton and all the hard working Decibel staff and volunteers in making this such a memorable weekend!

Here’s a great little review by Dave Segal of The Stranger on our show at Neumos (9/26):

“The Seattle duo of Justin Byrnes and Keith Kelley were the best I’ve ever seen them, pushing out fathoms-deep dub techno that harked back to the Chain Reaction label’s glory days (Porter Ricks, Fluxion, Monolake, etc.). Cyanwave were giving Neumos’ specially outfitted subs a serious workout, with the kickdrums sounding like submarines thudding against each other. Heady stuff.”

Cyanwave Live at Re-Bar 13-January-2012

This is a recording of the live set we played with Max Cooper and Nordic Soul at the Re-Bar here in Seattle for one of the Decibel parties. We try to record a lot of our shows, but the recordings rarely capture the sound properly. This one was the exception. Enjoy!

Cyanwave at Closer PDX

Cyanwave is excited to announce their upcoming Portland debut during the 4 day music festival, Closer PDX. We will be performing live alongside Raiz (Droid Behavior), Jak (SubSensory), and Ryan Walz (Alignment Sound).

Now in its second year, Closer Electronic Music Festival is a four day, multi-venue music event set in Portland, Oregon with a distinct focus on underground electronic music. Closer PDX’s 2012 festival dates are June 21-24, 2012.

This year, Closer is proud to present a high quality selection of venues, guests and underground PDX talent for a very special weekend of electronic dance music. Expect more events, exciting added venues, great guests and unexpected partners. Stay tuned, we’ll be announcing all the details in the months and weeks to come!

The Walls

After countless hours of intensive sound warping research, the bleepsequence collective has reached new heights (and depths) of sonic modulation studies. The bleep team was tasked to look to the iconic shapes of sound waves for inspiration: square, sine, triangle, sawtooth. From there, the interpretations evolved dramatically and grew beyond human control in some cases, and finally the entire collection combined into a mind expanding milestone to mark twenty releases, and two years.

A recent release of ours with our good friends The Automatic Message on Bleepsequence. Free download of the entire compilation from their website: http://bleepsequence.com/blpsq020.htm

Anxiety of Acceleration EP

Life only moves one way, forward. Faster and faster; until we approach the speed of light. As we accelerate, time begins to dilate. Events around us slow as our future is happening behind us. The mirage of understanding begins to lift and the anxiety of this one way trip begins to set in. We have left, there is no place to return to now, we’re headed past the final outpost. When space and time no longer exist is when the shift happens. All events have long since stopped and now our existence stops. Caught in an infinite peak everything returns to singularity. We are everything. We are nothing.
