Escape What You Create EP
We at From 0-1 would like to introduce to the world- Cyanwave; a Dub/Techno duo formed in Seattle in 2008 by long time producers, Justin Byrnes and Keith Kelley. Their first EP, (and From 0-1′s eighth release in the catalog) “Escape What You Create” explores spaced out, subconscious musings within an inspiring format that propels the listener into the duo’s own mythological landscape.
Starting off this release is “Locust”. Like a soundtrack to the invasion of giant alien bugs, Locust begins tense and ominously with insectoid clicks and cracks slowly moving on through ‘verbed out, filtered down territory warning the intruder that one more step into the hive will result in total annihilation. And total annihilation the bugs shall have as Locust moves through it’s alien soundscape and on to dance floor destruction. Up next is Minotaurs, a pumping, driving dub techno affair interspersed with suggestive vocal samples, 16th hi hats, and a funk driven bass line destined to move the skinniest of asses. It culminates, breaks, and then pushes on to heady atmospheric territory opening up perfect looping and effecting opportunities. Deep Time is simply an awe inspiring dub track as introspective as it is beautiful, any set can find this track a place at the beginning, end, or at some point in the middle when perfect timing calls for perfect dub. It’s timelessness is matched by some of the most inspiring modern dub (not ‘dubstep’ mind you) currently available on the planet.
And of course to round off the release are two tools for those inclined. Their names: Locust – Insecticide Tool, and Minotaurs – Movement III : Escape. Both insane names, and insanely good tools- perfect tension builders, or perfect breakdowns.
